The brand's latest attempt at addressing this is the Leon VZ TCR, a 321bhp special edition that won't reach customers until late 2026. That figure will be familiar to anyone with a Golf GTI Edition 50 on order, as will the corresponding 310 lb ft (420Nm) of torque, delivered once again by the evergreen 2.0-litre EA888 turbocharged four. Like the Edition 50, the VZ TCR will be equipped exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels via an electronic differential. 0-62mph takes 5.6 seconds, and Cupra has lifted the 155mph limiter from the car, although hasn't specified the new top speed.

After that, the two go their separate ways, with the Cupra appearing to be even more focused than the hardcore VW. Where the Golf retains its rear seats, the VZ TCR gets removable ones, opening up access to mounting points for four-point harnesses to go with the CUPBucket seats up front. Further back there's a strut brace and an integrated cargo net.
When it comes to chassis changes, like the VMAX, we've been given details but not specifics. Adaptive Chassis Control with configurable driver profiles features, as do Akebono six-piston brake calipers and 245mm-wide performance tyres. There’s no word on spring rates, damper settings, or geometry changes, but Cupra claims “The chassis has been fine-tuned for racing precision.” Cupra also claims the quad copper-finished exhausts produce a 'visceral soundtrack.'
Aerodynamic additions include a roof spoiler, front and rear splitters, side skirts, and a diffuser, all rendered in gloss black. A graphic runs along the flanks, described by Cupra as "a dynamic brushstroke" carrying a stylised version of the brand logo. Carbon fibre mirror covers and a dark chrome bonnet badge complete the exterior modifications.

The enhancements are inspired by Cupra's TCR racing programme, which has claimed championship titles in Europe, the UK, Mexico, and France this year. Production will be limited to 499 cars, matching the number of competition Leons built. The car will be assembled at Cupra's Martorell facility in Barcelona, and deliveries won't begin until the fourth quarter of 2026.
Before the VZ TCR arrives, Cupra will launch the Leon VZ in early 2026, sharing the 321bhp powertrain but dispensing with the track-focused modifications, offering what the brand positions as "everyday thrill" for 1,500 customers. It retains the quad copper exhausts and receives "refined design elements," though again, the specifics remain vague.
Cupra hasn't mentioned pricing for either model, although a premium over the current range-topping £48,300 Cupra Leon VZ3 is inevitable. Either way, the VZ TCR looks to be the most exciting Cupra since the Nürburgring record-breaking Leon Sub 8.
