MotoArto - Restomod Festival Makes its Debut This Summer

A new kind of car show is landing in London this July – one that looks to be music to the ears of petrolheads growing increasingly apathetic towards modern machinery and everything it represents.
Centred around “outlaw” car and bike culture, MotoArto already has several prominent restomodders signed up, each bringing world exclusives to the event. The roll-call includes the likes of Thornley Kelham, Frontline Cars, and Rennard.
Sharing the floor will be new work from more than 20 artists, including Sophie Tea, Maxim from The Prodigy, and Frieze 2024 winner Lawrence Lek.
One of the show’s more experimental pieces will see Sophie Tea live-paint a surprise car over the three days, while installations, short films and sculptures will run parallel to the vehicle unveilings.

Despite the explosion in restomodding and the outlaw scene, there’s never been a UK event dedicated to the genre – until now. The idea to fuse art and automotive comes from two industry outliers: Marchella De Angelis and Kim Shaylor.
Both have form. De Angelis has exhibited – and won – at Salon Privé, though she’s better known as the director of The Outlaw in Me, a feature-length documentary exploring the cult of re-engineered classics. Shaylor is the curator behind Gone Rogue, a London outfit known for testing the edges of fine art.
“I’m not bored with the classics, and I still love a supercar. I simply feel it’s time to embrace a wider cultural medium within the automotive arena,” says De Angelis.
MotoArto runs from July 3–5 and will be hosted at Shoreditch’s Bike Shed. Tickets are available online at www.motoarto.com.
