If the goal of any supercar is to achieve immortality, few try harder than the Pagani Zonda: it simply refuses to die. Just months after saying its final goodbye with the Arrivederci, say hello to this special one-off commission, said to be inspired by the Kunlun Mountains in China.

Okay, strictly speaking it’s not a new car, rather a reimagining of an original chassis, with the work completed by Pagani’s Unico division. Given the Zonda made its debut in 1999, it’s no surprise to see the firm is now restomodding its first-born.

Pagani has remained tight-lipped about the donor car and power output of the build, but an educated guess suggests a Zonda 760 Roadster which – as the name suggests – offers 760hp and 575lb-ft of torque from its AMG-sourced, 7.3-litre naturally aspirated V12. In old money, that’s 749.6bhp.

The makeover appears to be all about the design, with the chassis, suspension, and brakes apparently left untouched. A striking sky blue over exposed carbon fibre is the central theme, echoing the mythical meaning of the mountains being the birthplace of China, residence of the gods and ascension point into heaven. The commission includes an outrageous double rear wing and extended shark fin – naturally both are manufactured from carbon fibre. The interior has also been retrimmed to match.

Production of the Zonda first ended in 2017 with the release of the Zonda HP Barchetta, celebrating company founder Horacio Pagani’s 60th birthday. But then a one-off Pagani Zonda Revo Barchetta resurrected the model yet again at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Then, in late 2024, Pagani announced the Arrivederci, which was genuinely promised to be the final version.

As always, money talks – and with second-hand values of Zondas spiralling beyond £5 million, expect more well-heeled clientele to turn to the Unico division to prove there’s life in the seasoned supercar yet.
