Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Gains 5.2-litre Supercharged V8

GTD-inspired track upgrades and the promise of 600bhp elevate the Dark Horse model line, taking the V8 pony car into direct competition with the BMW M4 CS.

Bridging the gap between the Dark Horse and the GTD, the new SC model offers greater on-track performance with a supercharged powerplant under the bonnet. While the 5.2-litre V8’s output hasn't been confirmed yet, we expect the SC to offer around 600bhp and 553lb-ft (750Nm), if not more. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a 7-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission and a carbon fibre prop shaft.
The Dark Horse SC takes the place in the Mustang line-up that used to be occupied by the Shelby GT500. Many were expecting the new variant to take the famous tuner’s name, but the decision was made to reinforce the Dark Horse as the drivers’ choice within the Mustang range. Plus, Ford Racing believes in “win on Sunday, sell on Monday”, and its 2027 NASCAR challenger will be branded as the Dark Horse SC.

The new variant is visually set apart with its enlarged front grilles and revised bumper, a new bonnet, aerodynamically optimised side sills, a bespoke rear diffuser, and a fixed rear wing. The tweaks aren’t just for show; the aluminium bonnet features a new three-segment vent that not only improves thermal management, but enhances downforce.
With the Track Pack specified, the Mustang SC gets a new bootlid with an integrated ducktail spoiler and an enlarged carbon fibre wing mounted above. Ford says the ducktail lid improves the high-level wing’s efficiency by 10% and eliminates the need for an enlarged aerofoil, or one with a steeper rake which would impact rear visibility. In total, 281kg of downforce is generated by the Track Pack’s dual-wing set-up at 180mph.

The model benefits from a raft of mechanical upgrades born from track testing with the GTD and the Mustang GT4 racer. New MagneRide adaptive dampers, anti-roll bars, front and rear knuckles, control arms, and firmer springs all feature, alongside a magnesium strut brace. The handling has been further sharpened thanks to Pirelli P Zero R tyres, revised suspension geometry, an updated steering rack, and modified tie rods.
The Track Pack gets its own damper calibration, 5-stage traction control, and carbon ceramic Brembo brakes. The front brake discs are 419mm in diameter, while 20-inch carbon fibre wheels wrapped in bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres feature at all corners. Measuring 305/30 and 315/30 at the front and rear respectively, Ford claims near-supercar levels of traction from its supercharged muscle car.

Inside, all Mustang SC models get a flat-bottomed steering wheel complete with shortcut buttons for exhaust and suspension settings, plus a 12 o’clock marker. A dual-screen infotainment system is standard, with the central touchscreen angled towards the driver for improved usability when on the move. Track Pack models gain two-piece Recaro bucket seats, but lose the rear bench.
Order books will open this spring, headlined by the Track Pack Special Edition. Only available for the 2026 model year, the limited-edition variant combines the Track and Carbon Exterior packs, adds exterior graphics and a black painted roof, alongside red Brembo brake callipers, and 3D-printed titanium accents inspired by the Mustang GTD. Should the Mustang Dark Horse SC make it to the UK, we expect it to command a £100,000 price tag, undercutting the BMW M4 CS whilst offering more power.
