Novitec Helps the 12Cilindri Find its Voice

German tuner addresses the 12Cilindri's one criticism with an Inconel exhaust system. And for once, Novitec has shown unexpected restraint.

German tuner addresses the 12Cilindri's one criticism with an Inconel exhaust system. And for once, Novitec has shown unexpected restraint.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri has one meaningful flaw. Not the styling, which is divisive but undeniably striking. Not the performance, because 830bhp from a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 is beyond reproach. The problem, according to the motoring press so far, is the soundtrack. It doesn't quite hit the high notes and emit the number of decibels that makes a V12 Ferrari special. Blame Brussels.
Novitec has noticed, and before any power upgrades arrive, the German tuner has gone straight to the root cause with a new exhaust system. The system is available in Inconel – the lightweight, temperature-resistant alloy used in Formula 1 exhausts – and can be optionally finished with 999 fine gold plating on the quad tailpipes. Because if you're spending north of £400,000 on a V12 Ferrari, why wouldn't you?
The system features active butterfly valves for sound management, sports catalysts, and tailpipes measuring 112 x 100mm that follow the rear contour. Novitec claims it doesn't drastically alter the character, just amplifies what's already there: louder, fiercer, more exciting. Exactly what a 12-cylinder Ferrari GT-flagship should sound like before the bureaucrats banged their gravels.

What's perhaps more surprising than the exhaust, though, is the visual restraint on show here. This is Novitec – a company not historically known for subtlety – yet the 12Cilindri pictured wears its modifications with unexpected sophistication. Some might even say they're enhancements. The Grigio Titanio paintwork remains unviolated by lurid graphics or chrome accents. The carbon additions, while present, integrate naturally rather than scream for attention.
The NF11 forged wheels, developed with Vossen in a staggered 21/22-inch setup, handle the visual heavy lifting. Novitec offers three wheel designs for the 12Cilindri, each finished to customer specification, and offers a set of 30mm lowering springs.

Up front, carbon lip spoilers add downforce while hood-mounted air outlets aid cooling. At the rear, a subtle lip spoiler and carbon diffuser complete the aerodynamic package. Perhaps the most successful modification is the body-coloured strip between the headlights, replacing the Daytona homage with a cleaner, more cohesive look.
Carbon mirror caps, rocker panels, and various other accents can be specced to taste, though Novitec has resisted the urge to carbon-fibre absolutely everything in sight. Whether it's a sign of Novitec maturing, or simply respecting the source material, the overall effect is a 12Cilindri that looks more expensive and more purposeful than standard, without crossing into garish territory.
The exhaust system is available through UK distributors, with pricing on application. Additional carbon components, wheels, and suspension upgrades can be specified individually or as a package. For 12Cilindri owners who feel Ferrari left a bit too much drama on the table – or more accurately, trapped it behind particulate filters – Novitec may well have provided the answer. Just don't tick every box.
